Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) affects approximately 12 million Americans.
It was first described in 1672 by Sir Thomas Willis, a British physician, who described patients leaping with contractions of the leg.
RLS is characterized by muscle spasms, jiggling legs, and the urge to move your legs to stop the uncomfortable sensations, often while you sleep. It is thought that moving your legs may provide temporary relief.
A build-up or reflux of blood in damaged leg veins can cause the aching, cramping, throbbing and fatigue symptoms associated with RLS.
If you think you have Restless Leg Syndrome, make an appointment with Dr. Randy Waterford in one of our three offices, on Maui, in Kailua-Kona, or in Hilo.
He will use ultrasound to determine if you have venous insufficiency (vein disease) and recommend a quick, minimally invasive procedure such as VNUS Closure to offer relief from the symptoms.
