Dr. Robert Randolph (“Randy”) Waterford
Dr. Waterford is a Fellowship trained and Board Certified Vascular Surgeon, a Fellowship trained and Board Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon, a Residency trained and Board Certified General Surgeon, and also, a formally trained and American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certified Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) and Registered Physician in the Vascular Interpretation of vascular ultrasound studies (RPVI). Dr. Waterford is a permanent resident of the state of Hawaii, and splits his time between Maui and Hawaii Island.
Dr. Waterford received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biological Sciences and a minor in Spanish literature. He received his Medical Degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, California. He then completed a formal Internship and Residency training program in General Surgery at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Afterwards, he completed a formal Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship training program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (or “HUP”) and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (or “CHOP”), in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Afterwards, he completed an additional year of training in Adult Cardiac Surgery, serving as a Clinical Associate Staff Member at the Cleveland Clinic, in Cleveland, Ohio. He then entered private practice in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery for several years, before subsequently completing a formal Peripheral Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Fellowship training program at the Spectrum Butterworth Hospital/Michigan State University program in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Dr. Waterford has more than a decade of clinical experience after completing his formal internship, residency, and fellowship training programs in General, Vascular, Endovascular, and Cardiothoracic Surgery. He has performed thousands of procedures over a career that spans more than two decades, including his formal training years, which lasted a full decade beyond the completion of medical school. He is Board Certified in Vascular Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery and General Surgery, as well as Certified by the American Board of Phlebology (Specialty dedicated exclusively to the evaluation and managment of disorders of the veins). The American Board of Phlebology, a new board that is not currently recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties, but is committed to the education, training, and certification of physicians with a keen interest in and focus on disease processes of the veins and lymphatic vessels. In addition, he is certified by the ARDMS, as a specialist in vascular ultrasound, having attained both the RVT and RPVI credentials, as defined above.
Dr. Waterford is recognized as a member in good standing by several professional organizations, which include: the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Western Thoracic Surgery Association, the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, the American Venous Forum, the American College of Phlebology, the Society for Vascular Ultrasound, the Hawaii Medical Association, and the Maui County Medical Society.
When Dr. Waterford is not in the office, clinic, or operating theater, or making one of his quarterly trips to the South Pacific (where he provides the majority of the Vascular, Thoracic, and Dialysis Access surgical consultation and care for the island and people of American Samoa, which he affectionately refers to as his “second home”) he can often be located at a national scientific meeting or workshop, or spending time with his wife and two daughters, and enjoying the endless beauty and opportunities for exploration that the Hawaiian islands afford to those of us fortunate enough to call Hawaii home!
